Are you a senior living in UniverCity who loves arts and culture? If so, you're invited to a gathering to connect with each other, attend a talk at the SFU art gallery, and discuss possible future outings and activities.
Meet on Saturday May 28th at 1:45 pm in the lounge in the southwest corner of the AQ 3000-level (see map below). From there we will head to the gallery for the talk, followed by a chat at the Starbucks by the bus loop.
If you can't attend but would be interested in future outings, please email univercitycommunity@gmail.com to connect.
Refreshments will be provided at the gallery. In accordance with SFU’s Covid-19 protocols, face masks are recommended.
Please RSVP by email to univercitycommunity@gmail.com
About the talk:
Black Ferns on a Glass Planet: Sean Alward in Conversation with Dr. John Clague. Renowned SFU earth scientist Dr. John Clague joins exhibiting artist Sean Alward in conversation at SFU Gallery. Drawing on Clague’s decades of research on the geology of the West Coast and Alward’s own practice of working with coal and other organic matter as pigments, the two will conjure a picture of this region as it has evolved through deep time.
On this occasion we also celebrate the launch of Alward’s publication, Black Ferns on a Glass Planet. Part experimental memoir, part science fiction essay, this illustrated handbill will be free to SFU Gallery visitors.
More information about the talk can be found here.
