Lighting up the High Street

Updated: Sep 25, 2022

Have you seen the new decorative lights installed on the trees along High Street at UniverCity? For several years now, residents at UniverCity have been hoping for such a display. In past years, the UniverCity Community Association (UCA) collaborated with volunteers and local community groups to set lights up during the Winter holiday season.

More recently, the UCA has advocated, in collaboration with SFU Ancillary Services, for an improved light installation to further brighten our community. You’ll now see they extend along the tree line from Town and Gown Square all the way to Tower Road. They are anticipated to remain for the holiday season and beyond.

While the display adds a warm vibrant glow to the centre-hub of our community, the lights also symbolize a “corridor of connection” between SFU and UniverCity. More than ever, the UCA continues to partner with SFU to make our community on Burnaby Mountain a thriving, safe, and engaging place. StreetFest 2022, that has just taken place on September 16, is one example of this strong and collaborative effort. So, come out, see the lights, explore UniverCity, and connect with our community, that has just gotten a little “brighter”.
